Forget the Goal

Forget the goal; think only of the surrounding country; and after a period, perhaps when you least expect it, you will suddenly find yourself in a lovely town on a hill.

Arnold Bennet

So much of our life is broadcasted now. Everything is captured, curated, and put on display for others to see. The work is what matters most because it is the work, the process, that truly fills the soul.

Forget the goal and focus on the doing. Write the words. Read them. Tear them pieces and write them again. Dive head first into learning and immersing yourself so deeply you cannot hear the noise. That's what it is, social media, reels, tiktoks, likes, retweets, it's all noise. It's not The Work.

Sometimes I forget that write because I like it. I like the feel of the keys under my fingers and the sound each one makes as I tap away at my little stories. I forget that I can get lost in my notebook scrawling away with my pen. Looking up from those scratchy scrawling's feels like drawing breathe after diving into the ocean. That's the most important thing. To keep at it. To keep in there. Doing it for yourself and no one else.

Other people might see it, you might share it, but it's for you. Forget the Goal and get lost in The Work.
