I'm breaking up with my Big Tech Boyfriends

Well, the news has landed. Unsurprising, but still disappointing, Amazon will use AI to narrate their books. It's "Optional", apparently, but I can't imagine that evil empire wanting to pay for something they know they don't have to.

I'm going to move away from large tech companies.

This is tough. I like the convenience of some of them. But I have untangled myself from Google as much as possible already and that is probably the messiest.

I just can't see a future were these companies do good by people.

Amazon is the next to go

I genuinely love reading on my Kindle every day. But slowly, the flexibility of it has been eroded. They have taken more and more away and it is now apparent that you do not own any of the things you "purchase" on the Kindle store. I've spent a few thousand dollars on them over the years and apparently I don't own any of it.

So, that's enough. Time to jail break my Kindle. This video here gives a good breakdown on how to do it.

It seems as if it is reversible if it doesn't go well, so I can't see any issues here.

Spotify my love

This hurts. Spotify has a glorious algorithm that feeds me what I need. But it's all bullshit. Spotify has been creating their own albums and put those into people's feeds. Some of the music are exactly the same songs but published by unique artists. Learn more here.

I don't even know where to start with finding my music library again. This feels like I'm being pushed into piracy. A disappointing notion. Do I buy vinyl? Or CDs? Or Both? Then rip my CDs?

Help me find:

You can email me here you'd like.

Meta is like a virus

I need a messaging app that isn't FB Messenger or WhatsApp. I have zero trust that Meta will not use my personal information to do something awful.

Help me find a messaging app that is safe and not owned by a complete weirdo.

Streaming is expensive and shit

All video streaming services keep upping their prices and dropping their quality. They never have what you want to watch. It is time to return to BluRay and DVD. My kids can rewatch the same 10 movies for their entire childhood. I am ok with this. It made me who I am, even if I am often the only one who gets my obscure references.

Such as saying "I'm shouting, I'm shouting" right after saying I am not shouting.

That's my rant.

I'm sad for the technology.
